Re: Trip Rates
Dear Sirs and Brothers:
This is in regards to existing trip rates on our property and the issue of overtime and overmiles included for each pool/run.
As you are aware since the inception of trip rates, all pools/runs governed by mileage components are required to claim all miles run which would dictate
when and if the pool/run would qualify for overtime. As you are also aware this procedure will not allow payment for additional overmiles run, and when
overmiles were incurred in many cases it would cause the pool/run to be denied any overtime as a result. For example: I will use a pool that has a 160
mile base in the trip rate (130 miles plus 30 overmiles). If this pool was called and used short of the away from home terminal and traveled 140 miles in
one direction and then turned back to the home terminal (or vice versa) and traveled another 140 miles with a total of 280 miles this crew would only be
paid the agreed to trip rate without any overtime and without any additional overmiles being paid. This type of situation would cause the crew in this
instance to lose mont3-Y.
Since April, 2005, UTU Vice President Roy Boling has been assigned to assist in this matter in order to resolve this issue. Please be advised through the
help provided by Brother Boling along
with the undersigned the carrier has agreed to a procedure that will mandate overtime will commence. once the total time on duty matches the overmile
factor for each pool or run. Using the above example and the 160 miles now incorporated in the existing trip rate, the crew will start overtime after 9 hours
and 51 minutes each and every tour of duty regardless of miles run.
I have attached a detailed list of each pool/run that has the new procedure in place or will have it in place very soon. Any trip rate not listed will have this
procedure placed into affect by the end of February, 2006.
I will forward any and all information on this matter once it is furnished to this office.
